The problem we kept hearing

Every week for the last two years, someone — a building owner, a property manager, a general contractor, an architect on a permit call — asked us the same question:

"Do I actually need ERCES at this building?"

The honest answer is: it depends. On the local AHJ. On the code edition they've adopted. On the local amendments. On the building size, height, construction type, occupancy, and current radio coverage. In Texas, with 91 authorities having jurisdiction and dozens of nuanced amendments, no owner should be expected to know that off the top of their head. And no one — no consultant, no AHJ hotline, no competitor — offered a way to find out fast, for free.

What we built

Building Signal Check™ asks four questions:

1. Where's the building?
2. How big is it and how tall?
3. What's the construction type?
4. Do you have any current in-building radio coverage data?

Sixty seconds later, you get a plain-English answer covering:

• Whether IFC §510 and NFPA 1225 apply to your building today
• Which Texas AHJ your building falls under, what code edition they've adopted, and the local amendments that matter
• What the next step looks like — from "you're fine" to "you need a grid survey" — with a fixed recommendation

No login. No sales call. No paid unlock. The data is backed by Zion's 291-AHJ Texas coverage — part of Building Signal Check's 691-city footprint across 13 U.S. states, constantly expanding — the same dataset our design team uses internally for permit submittals.

Why we made it free

Because ERCES is where owners get hurt the most in fire-protection code: they don't know it applies until an AHJ tells them at Certificate of Occupancy, and by then they're negotiating retrofit costs on the critical path. Free scoping means owners can plan. Plan better projects, plan better budgets, plan around Zion. That's the trade-off we're willing to make.

What "patent-pending" means here

Building Signal Check™ is a proprietary Zion Fire Protection tool. The scoping engine, the AHJ data model, and the workflow are the subject of a U.S. patent application filed with our patent counsel. That doesn't matter to the free version you use as an owner — it does matter to competitors who might consider cloning it. Don't.
